The devil's lair
I am a wolf in sheep skin,
A master of disguise,
I may look like kith or kin,
But do you know what's inside?
A sack of bones, tissue and blood,
Diseased with pain, darkness and despair,
Covered in dirt and stomped into mud,
To see me you’ll have to enter… The Devil‘s Lair.
For here it’s not just chaos, nor insanity,
Here I am helpless and will always be alone,
And my soul is cursed to pits so fiery,
But always frozen to the bone.
But I don’t burn to nothingness,
I won't ever get released,
I was forgotten, passed over, never to be blessed,
Now I can’t be cleansed and won’t ever know peace.
I walk this world alone, from birth to blessed death,
Try to shine her light around so no one sees my awful curse,
I come and tug, I help you stand, and to your new path I led,
And eventually though crudely made, I’ll lay down in my bed.
There I’ll reminisce and reflect on what was done,
Who did I harm, what did I achieve,
And flames will rise and once more I’ll go,
To the only place that welcomes me.
And somehow dark turns to light and the sun does always rise,
So up I get, my costume on, my perfected mask I don,
Then I walk outside, past my fellow demons I stride,
My eyes start to burn, my bones start to fry and yet I carry on.
Walking down societies street, looking nice and neat,
Look no burdens do I bare, not that anyone actually cares,
While inside I’m a mess and everyone I want to beat,
But around I will walk and squish into the “Okay” chair.
At first you may glance and try to smile at me,
But steal another look, maybe sense somethings’ amiss,
But you see the skin and my mask so really I must be,
But my eyes you do miss, to see the grandiose abyss.
It’s so deep and dark and absolutely off putting,
Go ahead, have a look or two
Did you enjoy The Devil's Lair?
Did you enjoy the searing heat?
Did you get to sit in the raised chair?
And while my soul was partially bared, did you get a good little peek?
Now the show may be done but don’t ever forget,
I am a wolf in sheep skin and a master of disguise,
The me underneath, the one you just met,
If ever seen again you must surely run and hide.
